iRobot Roomba 805 vs 890: Robot Vacuum Comparison

Welcome to the world of smart automatic cleaning devices! iROBOT ROOMBA is a series of automatic vacuum cleaners created by one of the leading players in the field- iRobot CORPORATION.

These little cleaning robots are revolutionizing the way vacuum cleaners work. They make our life much easier and free up time for other chores.

It is a smart device that can be programmed to vacuum clean different types of indoor floors. It is designed to be compact, flat and almost like a disc to perform its work efficiently and unobtrusively.

It is specially equipped with the iAdapt navigation system to help clean and adapt to different floor types easily. This technology also prevents it from going to places where it is not intended to go.

Both devices help in automatic vacuuming and are compact. But it is necessary to note that the iRobot Roomba 890 is an advanced version of the iRobot Roomba 805.

Let us look at the similarities first-

  • Can be programmed to clean different surfaces.
  • Can use the schedule feature to clean rooms at specific times of the day.
  • Easy to empty and clean.
  • Compact and portable.
  • Can be charged fast.
  • Soft touch bumpers to minimize collision impact.
  • Not very noisy.

In addition to the above functions, the iROBOT ROOMBA 890 an advanced model, has –

  • Wi-fi connectivity.
  • Remote control through a mobile app.
  • Voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
  • 5x stronger power.
  • Bigger batteries.
  • Able to clean a wider range of indoor floors.
  • Slightly lesser noise levels.

iRobot Roomba 805

The iROBOT ROOMBA 805 works effectively on different floor types like rugs, tiles, hardwood, and laminated floors. But tends to pick up things like clothes.

It can run up to 90 minutes but can get stuck in messy places. It comes with a small non-HEPA filter which needs frequent cleaning and is not very efficient.

iRobot Roomba 890

The iROBOT ROOMBA 890, on the other hand, contains cliff detect sensors to avoid falls from elevated areas such as stairs or over drop-offs.

It is powerful with 5x the power of iROBOT ROOMBA 805 but bigger and heavier.

It uses rubber brushes instead of bristles, which is great for removing pet hair.

It comes with a HEPA filter, and the full bin status can be viewed in the mobile app. Its sensors detect furniture and avoid collision more efficiently than the iROBOT ROOMBA 805.

However, the iROBOT ROOMBA 890 does not have Carpet Boost Technology and is not the most advanced ROOMBA. It also does not have a feature for cleaning multiple rooms and is more expensive.

Some of the things to consider while using a ROOMBA-

  • keep an eye out for your pets and toddlers while using ROOMBA.
  • Recharge immediately after the batteries drain as the batteries tend to get damaged when kept empty for a while.
  • Weekly maintenance is mandatory.
  • Store in a cool, dry area out of reach for children.

Both these models are good in their own ways and have different functions to perform their primary duty- unassisted floor vacuuming efficiently. While the iROBOT ROOMBA 890 is more advanced than the iROBOT ROOMBA 805, it is bulkier and more expensive.

Both are attractive to look at, but the iROBOT ROOMBA 805 is more compact. The best part about both of them is that you do away with the messy, tangled wires of a conventional vacuum cleaner.
